Mental health problems such as depression and anxiety are very common, with many people suffering from these at some point in their life. Other common mental health issues include stress in relation to a particular problem (work, home), phobias and grief.
One very serious mental health problem is suicidal thoughts or plans. If you need urgent help you should call 000. For mental health support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
If your mental health concern is less urgent please make a booking with one of our doctors. They can provide you with advice, and coordinate a management plan to suit your individual needs.
With certain mental health conditions you may be eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This allows you up to 10 visits with a psychologist at a substantially subsidised rate. These plans may be renewed 12 months from when your previous plan was initially done by the GP.
If you require a MHCP please notify the receptionist at the time of booking - a longer consultation is always required. MHCPs are much more than a simple referral. Usually the initial visit is spent fully exploring your current situation, with the MHCP preparation to be completed at a subsequent visit.
It may not be possible to discuss any other specific health concerns as well as complete a MHCP, so please notify the doctor at the start of the consultation so the allocated time can be used effectively to address your most urgent health problems.
